This 100% natural product is formulated to regulate the effects of alcohol metabolism in a number of ways. One is by blocking and/or breaking down acetaldehyde which is the toxic by-product of alcohol consumption mainly responsible for hangovers and related damage to the central nervous system, skin, liver, and brain. Another is by providing nutrients designed to support healthy neurological, liver, and central nervous system functions that are adversely affected by alcohol consumption.
CHP does NOT contain activated charcoal like some hangover pills (Chaser, Sobr-k, etc.). It is a fact that in addition to adsorption of toxins, activated charcoal also adsorbs food nutrients, vitamins, and minerals, the very same nutrients already depleted by alcohol consumption. Activated charcoal is used in hospitals to treat life threatening alcohol poisoning but is not suggested for regular consumption. This depletion of essential nutrients by activated charcoal pills will further exasperate the nutritional problems associated with alcohol consumption.

How CHP ingredients reduce the harmful effects of alcohol, alcohol cravings, and hangovers.
L-glutamine supplementation has been found to control alcohol craving and protect the cells from the deleterious effects of alcohol.
N-acetyl-cysteine (NAC), an amino acid that helps to drive out the toxins acquired from booze and tobacco smoke. N-acetylcysteine (NAC) is known to assist in processing and elimination of acetaldehyde. Studies suggest that NAC, taken together with Vitamin C and Thiamine can be used to prevent and relief syptoms of alcohol induced hangover. The primary detoxification mechanism for scavenging unmetabolized acetaldehyde (product of Alcohol_dehydrogenase) is sulfur-containing antioxidants like glutathione (L-glutamine preserves glutathione in the liver) and acetylcysteine (acetylcysteine boosts the production of glutathione)or NAC. Gluthione and acetylcysteine are active against acetaldehyde because they contain a reduced (unoxidized) form of sulfur called a sulfhydryl group, which contains a sulfur atom bonded to a hydrogen atom (abbreviated SH). Another study indicates, that N-acetylcysteine generally regresses the oxidative damage induced by Alcohol. A study in Italy suggests that glutathione prevents ethanol induced gastric mucosal damage and depletion of sulfhydryl compounds in humans.
Phosphatidylcholine. Studies using the baboon primate model of alcoholic liver damage have demonstrated that phosphatidylcholine can halt the progression of liver damage caused by the chronic consumption of alcohol.
Milk Thistle Extract / Silymarin. A number of studies have confirmed the potential benefits of Milk Thistle Extract / Silymarin in protecting against liver disease, including alcoholic cirrhosis.
Dextrose rehydrates quickly plus provides blood sugar to brain cells which is depleted by alcohol consumption. Dehydration is one of the causes of discomfort associated with a hangover.
Thiamine. Alcohol-dependent patients may have vitamin deficiencies, particularly of thiamine. The B-complex in CHP is recommended during and after alcohol consumption for a reduction in alcohol related hangover symptoms.
Folic Acid. Studies indicate that drinking alcohol to excess causes a deficiency in Folic Acid.

Alcohol related news: NEW YORK (Reuters Health) - Metabolic syndrome -- the cluster of symptoms such as obesity and high blood pressure that can lead to diabetes and heart disease -- seems to be less frequent among people who consume moderate amounts of alcohol, a new study suggests.
Dr. Matthew S. Freiberg, from Boston Medical Center, and colleagues analyzed data for 8125 subjects in the Third National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey.
The participants were evaluated for their alcohol consumption and for each component of the metabolic syndrome -- that is, having a large waist, high blood pressure, high blood glucose levels, high triglyceride levels and low "good" HDL cholesterol levels.
Overall, 60 percent of the subjects were current drinkers, defined as having at least one alcoholic drink per month. The percentages were higher for men (66 percent) than for women (50 percent), the team reports in the medical journal Diabetes Care.
The metabolic syndrome was seen slightly more often among women (23 percent) than among men (22 percent).
Overall, the researchers found that current drinkers had a 43 percent lower likelihood of having the metabolic syndrome than did non-drinkers.
After taking into account "age, sex, race/ethnicity, education, income, tobacco use, physical activity, and diet," the investigators calculated that participants who consumed 1-19 drinks of alcohol per month had a reduction in risk of 35 percent, and those who took more than 20 drinks a month had a 66 percent lower risk of the metabolic syndrome.
However, the benefit seemed to come from drinking beer and wine only, not liquor.
Alcohol consumption seemed to improve three components of the metabolic syndrome in particular: low HDL cholesterol, elevated triglycerides, and high waist circumference.
